What Are Voice Disorders?

A voice disorder occurs when the quality, pitch, loudness, or resonance of the voice differs in a way that draws attention, interferes with communication, or causes concern. Common voice disorders include vocal nodules, polyps, cysts, vocal fold paralysis, muscle tension dysphonia, and spasmodic dysphonia.

Voice therapy is recommended when voice changes persist for more than two weeks, are accompanied by pain or discomfort, or significantly affect daily life and professional function. We always encourage clients to see an ENT or laryngologist before beginning voice therapy so that any structural issues can be properly identified.

Refine Your Voice. Elevate Your Presence.

Your voice is one of the most powerful tools you possess. Long before you finish speaking, your voice communicates confidence, credibility, intelligence, and executive presence.

At The Nicole Spruill Academy, we believe every voice has the potential to become polished, poised, and unforgettable. Through our Elite Speech & Voice Coaching program, we help professionals, executives, entrepreneurs, public speakers, media personalities, and aspiring leaders develop a voice that reflects excellence.

Is This Program Right for You?

Do you…

Wish your voice sounded more confident and authoritative?
Find yourself speaking too softly or too loudly?
Want to improve your articulation and pronunciation?
Feel your voice lacks warmth, expression, or vocal presence?
Want to eliminate speech habits that distract from your message?
Desire greater confidence when speaking in meetings, interviews, presentations, or on stage?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, our coaching program was designed with you in mind.

Who Is Voice Therapy For?

Voice therapy and coaching at Nicole Spruill Academy serves:

  • Adults with diagnosed voice disorders (nodules, polyps, paralysis, etc.)
  • Teachers, coaches, clergy, and other high-vocal-demand professionals
  • Individuals experiencing chronic hoarseness, vocal fatigue, or strain
  • Singers and performers who want to protect and optimize their voice
  • Individuals with Parkinson’s disease who benefit from LSVT LOUD therapy

What to Expect in Sessions

Voice therapy begins with a thorough evaluation of your vocal function, habits, and goals. Sessions typically include work on vocal hygiene, breathing support, resonance, and the specific techniques that address your unique voice profile.

For individuals with medical voice disorders, we work in close collaboration with your ENT or medical team. For professional voice users and coaches, therapy is tailored to the demands of your specific context — whether that is the classroom, the boardroom, or the stage.

Benefits and Outcomes

Most clients experience meaningful improvement in voice quality, reduced strain, greater vocal endurance, and increased confidence in communication. Many avoid surgery through early voice therapy intervention. Professional voice users often report that therapy gives them both protective habits and greater expressive range.
